TikTok Ads Cost in 2026 With CPM, CPC and Budget Benchmarks for Large Brands

TikTok will happily let you launch an ad group for $20 a day. At the average 2025 CPA, that ad group needs about 41 days to collect 25 results, the point where TikTok says performance settles. By then, you've spent most of your test budget, and the algorithm is still figuring out who to show your ads to.

That's the catch with TikTok ads cost in 2026. The numbers you see first, like the minimum budget or a cheap CPM, tell you almost nothing about what a customer will cost you. A $4.80 CPM can still turn into a $41 order.

So how much does it cost to advertise on TikTok once you plan for results? We pulled the latest benchmarks, TikTok's own budget rules, and what GMV Max changed for TikTok Shop, then turned it all into a budget you can build from your own CPA.

Key takeaways

E-commerce advertisers paid about $4.80 to $13.26 per 1,000 TikTok impressions, depending on whether you use the median or the average.

  • A TikTok click works out to roughly $0.75 to $0.80 once you divide published CPMs by published click-through rates.

  • The average TikTok cost per acquisition was $32.74 in 2025, about 14% below Meta on the same dataset.

  • TikTok accepts ad group budgets of just over $20 a day, but its own guidance for purchase goals is 10 times your current CPA a day.

  • TikTok Shop ads now run on GMV Max, where you buy against an ROI target, and TikTok sizes the budget from your sales history.

How much do TikTok ads cost in 2026?

Somewhere between $4.80 and $13.26 per 1,000 impressions if you sell online. Which end you land on depends on whose data you read and how you read it.

There's no official TikTok cost per click, so we worked out the implied CPC in the table by dividing each CPM by the clicks it buys per 1,000 impressions.

Here's the interesting part. Your TikTok advertising cost per click barely moves between the two datasets, even though their CPMs are almost three times apart. The cheaper impressions simply got fewer clicks.

Published TikTok benchmarks differ for three reasons

If a gap that wide looks suspicious, it's fair to ask. Nobody got the math wrong, though. The datasets are just built differently.

  • Median vs average: Every one of Triple Whale's category medians comes in at less than half its overall average. A handful of big spenders drag an average up fast.

  • Campaign goal: Purchase campaigns and reach campaigns buy different people at different prices. Blend them, and you hide both.

  • Market: US-only data and global data price different inventory, so they rarely agree.

Our take: start with your category median, then swap it for your own numbers after the first month. Nobody else's benchmark knows your creative.

TikTok ads pricing by campaign objective

The goal you pick sets most of the price. In US accounts tracked by Affect Group, average TikTok CPM in Q2 2026 ran from $7 for reach at the low end to $32 for lead generation at the top.

Objective (US, average range)

$9 to $14

Sales

$14 to $22

Lead generation

$18 to $28

$20 to $32

Notice that every objective got pricier in a single quarter, and lead generation climbed the most.

Why is lead generation so expensive? The deeper the action you ask for, the fewer people are likely to take it. TikTok charges you more to find them.

One caveat worth knowing. Affect Group is an agency, and about 90% of these figures come from its own client accounts, so treat them as a solid US reference point and expect your account to wander around them.

TikTok bills by impression for most goals

On almost every performance campaign, you're paying for impressions. TikTok says both CPM and oCPM bidding charge by impression, and oCPM is the default for conversion and app install objectives. CPC and CPV bidding are the exceptions.

That changes how you should read a cheap CPM. Here's where the $41 order from the top of this article comes from: at Lebesgue's CPM, click-through rate and conversion rate, 1,000 impressions bring you 6.1 clicks and 0.117 orders.

A low CPM only becomes a low CPA when the clicks and conversions show up behind it.

What do TikTok ads cost by industry?

It depends a lot on what you sell. Median cost per acquisition on TikTok ran from $13.46 for pets to $31.25 for electronics in 2025, according to Triple Whale.

Here's what surprised us. The TikTok ads price per impression barely changes from one category to the next, and the real spread shows up in CPA.

If you're a CPG brand, there's good news in that table: beauty, food and beverage, and health and wellness all sit in the cheaper half for CPA.

Electronics is the odd one out. Its CPM sits mid-pack, yet each customer costs the most, probably because a pricier product takes more convincing before anyone checks out.

TikTok's minimum budgets and what they actually buy

The official floor is low. TikTok requires more than $50 a day per campaign and more than $20 a day per ad group.

Here's the problem with running at the floor. At Triple Whale's average CPM, $50 buys about 3,770 impressions and 67 clicks a day, which is roughly 1.5 purchases at its average CPA.

That means 25 results take around 16 days. TikTok's learning phase page, updated June 2026, says performance settles after about 25 results or 7 days, so you'd be stuck in learning for two weeks or more.

TikTok seems to know this. Its budget best practices, updated August 2026, set a much higher TikTok ads minimum daily budget per ad group:

  • Purchases and add to cart: at least 10 times your current CPA, or $200 if you have no CPA yet.

  • App installs: at least 20 times your current CPA, or $200 without one.

  • Page views and other early actions: at least 50 times your current cost per result, or $100 without one.

So what's a realistic TikTok ads cost per day? Think of the TikTok ads minimum budget as the entry ticket and the 10x rule as the real price of admission.

One quick note: TikTok Promote, the boost button inside the TikTok app, is a separate product with its own payment options.

How much does GMV Max cost for TikTok Shop ads?

There's no price list. You give GMV Max a budget and an ROI target, and TikTok spends against both. Since July 2025, it's been the only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop ads, so if you sell through a TikTok Shop, this is how you buy.

The good news is that TikTok will size the budget for you. Its GMV Max best practices recommend 2 times your historical non-LIVE GMV, divided by your ROI target. A TikTok Shop with $50,000 in non-LIVE GMV and a 4.0 ROI target gets a $25,000 recommendation.

The starting ROI target comes from your history too: non-LIVE GMV divided by ad cost. A shop that made $50,000 on $12,500 of ad spend starts at 4.0.

From there, the ROI target is your main cost lever in TikTok GMV Max. TikTok says lower targets boost delivery and GMV, while higher targets may hold spend back, and it asks you to keep each setting for at least three full days.

How should large brands plan a TikTok ads budget?

Work backward from your target CPA, one budget line at a time.

Don't have a target CPA yet? Start from contribution margin. The most you can pay for a first order is the margin it earns, plus the margin you expect from repeat orders inside your payback window.

One disclaimer: the examples below use Triple Whale's 2025 average CPA of $32.74.

Size each conversion ad group at 10 times your target CPA

This is TikTok's own floor for purchase goals, and it's the line everything else builds on. At a $32.74 CPA, that's $327 a day per ad group.

Check that each ad group can reach 25 results in a week

Divide the daily budget by your CPA to see how many results it buys. At $327 a day, you get about 10 purchases, so an ad group clears 25 results in under 3 days and stays well inside TikTok's 7-day window.

If the math says more than a week, the ad group is underfunded. Raise its budget or merge it with another one.

Multiply by your ad groups for the monthly conversion line

Give every creative concept or audience you want to read its own ad group separately. Four ad groups at $327 a day come to about $39,300 a month.

Turn your reach budget into impressions

Divide the budget by your expected CPM and multiply by 1,000. At the US reach CPMs above, $10,000 buys roughly 909,000 to 1.43 million impressions, which tells you whether the line is big enough to matter.

Use TikTok's recommended budget for the GMV Max line

If you sell through a TikTok Shop, don't guess this one. Ads Manager suggests a budget from your non-LIVE GMV and ROI target, using the formula from the GMV Max section, so start there and adjust as results come in.

Add the lines up, and you've got your TikTok advertising cost per month. When finance asks where a number came from, you'll have a formula to point to.

Are TikTok ads cheaper than Meta ads?

A little, if you compare them on the same data. In Triple Whale's 2025 benchmarks, Meta's average CPA was $38.19 and its CPM $14.19, which puts TikTok about 14% cheaper per customer and 7% cheaper per impression.

Lebesgue sees a wider gap. Its September 2026 data has TikTok CPM about 30% below similar Facebook ads.

Meta's platform-reported ROAS of 1.86 also trails TikTok's.

So how much are TikTok ads next to Meta? Slightly cheaper, at least in these datasets. The gap is small enough that your creative, audience, and margin will decide it, so test both before you move budget.

Plan your TikTok ads cost around CPA with Darkroom

Quick recap. Cheap CPMs and low minimums say little on their own, because the objective you choose, your category, and your CPA decide what TikTok really costs. Build the budget from CPA, follow TikTok's own floors for learning, and treat the ROI target as your cost lever on TikTok Shop.

At Darkroom, we run paid media across TikTok, Meta, Google, and retail media. For Sculpd, monthly ad spend scaled from a $30K baseline to over $1M by December across Meta, Google, and TikTok, and the business grew nearly 100% over Q4.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you run TikTok ads on a lifetime budget?

Yes. A lifetime campaign budget must be more than $50, and a lifetime ad group budget has to cover $20 for every day it runs, so a 31-day ad group needs at least $620. TikTok's own best practice, though, is to set ad group budgets as daily budgets.

How often can you change a TikTok ads budget?

Leave targeting, bids, and budgets alone while a conversion campaign is still learning. After that, TikTok recommends keeping each budget change within 50% of the previous budget and waiting at least two days between changes, so the system has time to adjust its pricing.

When does TikTok charge for a video view?

Only on campaigns that use CPV bidding with the video views goal. TikTok charges when someone watches your ad for at least 6 seconds, or interacts with it within the first 6 seconds, whichever happens first. Accelerated views count too, as long as the original ad runs 6 seconds or longer.

Do TikTok Shop ads cost more than standard TikTok ads?

They're bought differently, so it's hard to compare them head to head. TikTok Shop ads run on GMV Max, where you set a budget and an ROI target, while standard campaigns run on bids and CPM.

Does TikTok refund GMV Max spend when it misses the ROI target?

Partly. Since February 2026, TikTok adds ad credit when a GMV Max campaign with more than 20 daily orders delivers below 90% of its daily ROI target. Campaigns on Max delivery don't qualify, and protection lapses on days you pause the campaign or edit its products.
